Using it

What does DnD Scribe do?

You upload the recording of a session. It writes a transcript with each speaker separated, and once you have said which voice is which player, it writes the session into four campaign documents: the World, GM notes, an NPC roster and a summary for each player's character. Every session adds to the same documents, so they grow with the campaign.

What can I upload?

Audio or video, up to 5 GB per file: MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, OGG and FLAC, or MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI and FLV, whose sound is used. One recording per session works best.

How long does it take?

Usually about half an hour for a four-hour session, longer when many recordings are waiting. Writing the campaign notes afterwards takes a few minutes.

How does it know who is speaking?

It separates the voices in the recording by itself. You then say once, for each session, which voice belongs to which player, and which character each player plays. The notes follow each player's character from then on.

Which languages does it work in?

It is built and tested with English-speaking tables.

What if the notes get something wrong?

The transcript and the notes are written by software and can contain mistakes. You and your players can edit the notes, and you can have a session analysed again.

Your table

Who can see my campaign?

You, and the players you invite. Players can read everything and edit the notes. Only you, the campaign's owner, upload recordings, name the voices, start the analysis and delete things.

Do my players have to pay?

No. Players need an account to read the campaign, but only the owner pays, for the recordings they upload. See pricing.

Do I need my players' permission to record?

Yes. Everyone in a recording must agree to being recorded and to the recording being uploaded here. In some places that is the law, and our terms require it everywhere.

How do I get an account?

DnD Scribe is invite-only for now. Email partyscribe@gmail.com to ask for access.

Privacy and your data

What happens to our names?

The names you give your players are replaced with "Player 1", "Player 2" and so on before the transcript is sent to the AI that writes the notes, including where someone says them out loud. Nicknames and misheard spellings may not be caught. Character and NPC names are sent as they are: they are the story.

Is our audio used to train AI?

No. Recordings are transcribed by our own software on GPU servers we rent from Modal. The notes are written by Anthropic's Claude, whose terms for business use do not allow training on what we send. See the privacy policy for every service involved.

Can I download my notes?

Yes. The campaign documents download as Markdown files, or as an Obsidian vault with the people and places linked. Transcripts and recordings are not available for download.

How do I delete things?

The owner can delete a session or a whole campaign at any time, recordings included. To close your account, use the Account page: it is deleted straight away, along with every campaign you own. You leave the campaigns you joined, and their owners keep them.
